From Morgan

  • We are eagerly awaiting responses from funding organizations that we applied to for grants earlier this year:

    • Community Foundation of WNC: Black Mountain-Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund ($10,000.00). Expected notice of funding: April 2023.

    • North Carolina Housing Finance Agency: Urgent Repair Program ($66,000.00). Expected notice of funding: April 2023.

    • Buncombe County: Strategic Partnership Grant ($40,000.00). Expected notice of funding: July 2023.

    • Buncombe County: Tipping Point Grant ($5,000.00). Expected notice of funding: July 2023.

  • We are currently finalizing a funding application from the Town of Black Mountain, due on April 12, with an expected notice of funding in June 2023.

  • We are exploring grant opportunities with Dogwood Health Trust, State Employee Credit Union Foundation, USDA Rural Development, and the City of Asheville.

  • We have started local business outreach by going door-to-door to Black Mountain businesses, speaking with owners and managers to explore partnership opportunities and spread the word about our services and community impact.

  • We met with local breweries and restaurants to discuss potential percentage nights and other collaborative opportunities.

  • We are in the early stages of planning an annual Bluegrass & BBQ Jam to raise awareness of Hammer & Heart and to fund future projects.

From Ben

  • We are currently assisting four clients.

    • Sheila Logan: Volunteer deck-staining project (TBA)

    • Lyn White: Volunteer ramp-staining project (April 18)

    • Shon Snipes: McClung Roofing provided free roof repair, Gray Mountain Landscaping offered free tree removal and flood remediation (at a later date), and a volunteer cleaned out her gutters.

    • Terry Cody: Volunteers will be building handrails for her steps (TBA)

  • We have three potential clients in the review process.

  • Elaine Metcalf, an earlier client, is currently in rehab after cancer surgery. Her condition is not good, but she's looking ahead ("I'm ready to go home"). Patty has been staying in touch and has found a home for her dog.

  • We are in urgent need of "Project Managers." Learn more here.

  • We are currently working on an H&H video, highlighting work with one of our clients (see drone footage below).

  • A very generous volunteer has "re-located" to the area for three months, and hopes to fund/participate in several ramp-builds (we are looking for folks in need of ramps).
